The Musical Therapist Born: Philadelphia, PA I’m DJ Jeremy and I’ve been DJing for 18 years. When I’m not in front of a crowd, I love swimming, spending quality time with my kids, going to the beach, and traveling the world. Or I might be found listening to “A Song for You” by Donny Hathaway on repeat. I’m energetic, passionate, loyal, optimistic, and loving. Music has been a big part of life for as long as I can remember. I discovered that I could sing around the age of five. My grandfather wanted me to use that talent in church, so I sang “Shower Me with Your Love” by Surface. It wasn’t quite a typical church song but the church went crazy! That’s when I found my passion for hearing a crowd become excited over music. From there, I became classically trained in reading music and music theory by the age of 14. Then, I auditioned for American Idol Season 4. Simon Cowell and Nigel Lythgoe were HUGE influences on my journey to where I am today. I’m very proud of where my music career has taken me. I signed with 6 ABC in Philly for 5 consecutive years. I’ve sung with Jason Derulo, Sheila E, All 4 One, Justin Guarini, and Jennifer Hudson in events like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Cherry Blossoms in DC, and Christmas shows. Then I was the lead singer in Disney’s Festival of Lion King show at Walt Disney World. I’ve also been on The Chew and Good Morning America with The Lion King cast of 2013. Music is therapy. It can make people happy, sad, angry. For me as a DJ, I make sure that my shows are 95% about the crowd and 5% about me. Keeping that small percentage about me is how I infuse my talents and emceeing skills to allow guests’ emotions to be affected by the music I play. This puts my guests in a vulnerable place, which I take as a great responsibility to deliver musically as a DJ and emcee. My mindset for every event is that MY FIRST SHOW IS MY LAST SHOW. Having this mindset keeps me consistent in the quality of my shows. Add in the one-of-a-kind elements that Mix on Wheels and Miles DJ Productions add to a show and it’s a recipe for a successful event. There’s nothing else in the world like them. The vehicles grab guests’ attention, and they can’t take their eyes off the show. When it comes to DJ styling, DJ Jazzy Jeff said something that has stuck with me, “You know what I’ve realized? Simple can sometimes be best. I’m a huge fan of all the most intricate scratches, and I see dope DJs that I’m going crazy inside over, but I look around and no one else understands.” It’s all about relating to the crowd and finding what they want. So, I hone in on my mic skills to communicate with the crowd, something most DJs shy away from. Like I’ve already said, making the crowd happy and hyped will always be my #1 goal.JEREMY COLLINS
