I am Charles Miles (DJ Miles) the man behind both Miles DJ Productions and Mix on Wheels. I’ve been in the music industry since the early 90’s and grew up on the sounds of Depeche Mode, Madonna, New Order, Prince, Michael Jackson, Run DMC, Culture Club, Beastie Boys, and Aerosmith. I like to radiate energy and passion in everything I do, and love teaching and supporting my teams of DJs.
My initial love for music and performing came from being a breakdancer which transcended to DJing in high school. It has always been about the crowd and ultimately making people happy.
While pursuing a degree at the University of Alabama, I didn’t slow down. I started my own mobile disc jockey company specializing in corporate events and weddings, DJed at various clubs, and dabbled in radio as a mix show DJ on Friday nights. Degree in hand and with an amazing resume of experience, I landed my dream job in Florida as a Manufacture Representative of pro-audio and lighting for music store sales. But, the DJ passion was still there so I auditioned and got a second job as a Walt Disney World DJ for corporate events and fairytale weddings.
My career continued with a promotion to a corporate audio and DJ buyer for the retail chain MARS music stores. The amount of travel required for the next 4 years to different manufacturers was an amazing experience however did not leave time for any DJing.
In 2003, I said goodbye to the corporate job and started Miles DJ Productions. I worked as an independent contractor to WDW and private and corporate events at local resorts and parks. Three years later, I went on the road with Disney and Coca-Cola for “Grad Nights” onsite at various high schools. This is where my inspiration for Mix on Wheels was born and started in 2007 with our original vehicle, the Hummer H3 Xtreme.
Mix on wheels now has 6 vehicles and one battery-powered trike-bike. All vehicles support both indoor and outdoor events. We’ve even opened a second office in South Florida as of 2021.
Meanwhile, Miles DJ Productions has become the exclusive in-house DJ company for Universal Studios Orlando while continuing to be one of the most successful, professional weddings and events DJ companies around.
Even though technology, in some ways, has made it easier to DJ it doesn’t change the fact that a successful DJ doesn’t just play music. You have to get on the mic, speak well, know the specifics of the event, and keep the crowd engaged. You have to go in with the mindset to give it your all. No matter the size of the event you want people to leave saying “that was a great party!”
My favorite experience as a DJ has been New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World, specifically on Cinderella’s Castle stage and at the World Showcase in China at EPCOT. Both were an amazing honor!
Although the music world is a huge part of my life, it’s not my whole life. I love spending quality time with my family, working out, fishing, and working on my Jeep. Being grill-master in our backyard or heading to the beach for the weekend, it’s all about those everyday moments with those I love most. It’s been an amazing ride so far and I’m excited to see what’s next!
